I conducted a workshop last weekend for working professionals and had assigned homework as part of that. We reviewed their homework at the start of the class, and I noticed that the majority of them had clear AI smells.
I let the participants know that using AI is perfectly fine, especially in an AI class, and asked how many of them used AI to write the final output, All, except one, said “Yes” - a bit of a surprise to me since it included some output that I thought was manually written.
Then I asked them how many would allow their children to do the same, that is, to submit AI output as their homework. A clear majority of them said no.
| YES, kids should use AI | No, kids shouldn’t | |
|---|---|---|
| YES, I used AI | 7 | 16 |
| NO, I didn’t | 0 | 1 |
(3 others who didn’t submit their homework also said “No” to kids using AI for homework.)
I mentioned this to my daughter, who nodded wisely and said, “Well, at least they’re self-aware!”
